World Record (60-69 category) attempt.
No new record but I got that 1 vital World Cup point
253 miles.
Between Race Around Poland and my last timed event – a 12hour – I had a training crash in the US and suffered a compound fracture of my pelvis. Luckily, I avoided surgery.
Once home, Jill and I created a bone building nutritional plan. We also discovered that we had a hyperbaric oxygen chamber within 2 hrs travel time!
Between nutrition and the chamber my healing was fast-tracked. I started to think about the race calendar and if I really had enough time and capability to squeeze in a 12-hour race.
I had until Dec 20th to log it and by now all I needed was one single point to win the World Cup.
Jill, Marc and I went back to Florida on Dec 16th and I attempted to break the age category 12-hour road record.
Given my form and my tentative return to racing, breaking the record was a long shot. What I really needed was the one point that came from completing a record attempt.
I delivered 253 miles in windy conditions (just my luck!) and along with the finish line came my long awaited dream – the World Cup!
